Despite any awkward reactions, Modern Greek has been taught uninterruptedly since 1975. The experiences and passions of the past were taken as lessons. The twenty-five years from 1975 to 2000 were linguistically fruitful for Greek schools.
The measures taken and the practices that prevailed in the school environment helped to solidify and realize the social demand for systematic language education with Modern Greek as the mother tongue. The absence of serious reactions when, in 1993, the proposal was formulated and activated for the teaching of "Greek language: ancient, Byzantine, and literary texts" demonstrates that Greek society has freed itself from fears and linguistic fanaticism.
It also reflects the movement of ideas and interdisciplinary interest in finding ways to teach and engage students in the language subject, which will not ignore the roots, continuity, and unity of the Greek language from Homer's time to the present day.
