Description

The Cold War was the defining feature of the international community during the second half of the 20th century. This acute confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union in the political, military, economic, and ideological arenas, which never escalated into an open military confrontation between them, affected more or less the entire population of our planet with negative, tragic, but also beneficial consequences.

A consequence of the dominant position and conflicting interests of the two superpowers at the end of World War II, as well as the exhaustion of the traditionally strong European powers of the international system, the Cold War was conducted on a global scale and ended with the undeniable defeat of the Soviet Union, which became ideologically devalued and ceased to exist politically.

The presentation of the most important parameters and some of the broader implications of the conflict is the aim of this work. With the collaboration of reputable researchers from Greece and the United States, the goal is to familiarize, at an introductory level, the broader Greek reading public with a topic of great importance but very limited presence in Greek literature.

The reader will not only satisfy their historical and, more broadly, scientific curiosity, but will also have the opportunity to evaluate the reactions of rulers and the ruled to a major political challenge.
