The thirty-seven studies included in the honorary volume in memory of Professor Georgios Gounaris cover a wide chronological range, from the late Roman and Byzantine to the post-Byzantine period, and present a great variety in their themes: architecture, painting, sculpture, microcraft, and manuscripts. It is precisely this multifaceted research personality and the diverse interests of the beloved teacher that are reflected in the chronological breadth and variety of thematic axes of the studies by colleagues, friends, and students who collaborated with him.

Of course, the honorary position in the volume is held by painting, a category that gathers the most studies, which is not coincidental, as it was the most intimate and beloved subject of study for him. Post-Byzantine painting initiated Georgios Gounaris into the science of Byzantine archaeology and art.
