Protected Geographical Indication (PGI): Drama
The Michailidis Estate is located in Agios Athanasios of Drama. This area is known for vine cultivation and ancient culture, with archaeological findings that testify to the presence of vineyards and an ancient wine press.
The history of the estate began in 1924, when Kostas Semertzidis, grandfather of the winemaker Iordanis Michailidis, started wine production in Kyrgia of Drama after arriving as a refugee from Asia Minor. Iordanis Michailidis, as a representative of the third generation, took over the management of the estate in 2004 with the aim of creating a modern winery and producing quality wines that combine modern techniques with local traditions.
This new wine comes from a four-acre vineyard in the Lagotopos area in Kyrgia of Drama, where the varieties Assyrtiko and Gewürztraminer are cultivated. The very low yield of 450 kilos per acre, co-fermentation, late harvest, and fermentation in small French oak barrels for 6 months contribute to the production of a white wine with an alcohol content of 15%.
