O Poggio alle Mura is the historic name of the 12th-century fortress that crowns the Banfi vineyard estate. Today, the castle is named Castello Banfi. Since the mid-1980s, Castello Banfi has undertaken intensive research on the Sangiovese clone. More than 650 clones were studied, and the 3 best clones were vinified at Poggio alle Mura.

This wine ages for at least 2 years in small and large French oak barrels and then for another 2 years in the bottle. The nose reveals fruity aromas of blackberry and plum jam with hints of smoke and spices. On the palate, it is well-structured with excellent fruit concentration, ripe tannins, and a persistent finish. It is suitable for exceptionally long aging.

Food pairing: Ideal with rich, juicy dishes, game, and aged cheeses.
