If you are thinking of replacing the car or public transport for a daily commute of about 12 kilometers a day like I do, choosing the right electric scooter is not a simple matter. Especially if the route includes demanding terrain—from gravel dirt roads and poor road conditions to steep hills—and the total load exceeds 100 kilos, the conventional scooters on the market simply give way.

I live on a dirt road, so I ride 200 meters to get to the asphalt; you can also go into potholes without fear, and it withstands rain too.

Calculating use over a 5-year period, with a total distance approaching 22,000 kilometers, the choice of the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Pro (priced at €535), with an average monthly electricity cost of €2.5 for my use, emerges as the most rational and durable solution.

Let’s analyze the reasons that make it stand out:

1. 12-inch wheels. Powerful motor. Most scooters in this category are equipped with 8.5- or 10-inch wheels. The Xiaomi 6 Pro has 12-inch wheels that act as excellent “natural suspension,” effectively absorbing road imperfections.

At the same time, the motor with a maximum power of 1000W (rated 400W), mounted on the rear wheel, ensures top-level traction. Even with a 115-kilo rider and a bag, rear-wheel drive offers complete control, while the 22% climbing ability makes it capable of demanding hills. In practice, I encountered no difficulties.

2. Real range, usage cost: In real-world conditions with increased weight, the 6 Pro offers excellent range at 25 km/h (Sport). The 468Wh (10Ah) battery consumes very little energy per kilometer. With the average electricity price, the cost of travel is practically negligible, about €2~3 per month and around €150 in total over a 5-year horizon for 22,000 kilometers.

3. Maintenance for longevity: To maintain flawless performance over 22,000 kilometers, a simple preventive maintenance program is required:

Tire pressure (45–50 PSI): Prevents rim damage and minimizes rolling resistance.
I recommend monthly inflation to 48 psi.

Monthly tightening check: Check the folding mechanism and the handlebar screws. It has its own Allen key; no other tools are needed. The aluminum and plastics are of excellent quality.

Bearing maintenance: Every 5,000 kilometers, inspect and lubricate the bearings.

Brake maintenance: Monthly visual inspection of the rear disc brake pads.

Battery charging (20%–80%): Daily charging within this range extends its lifespan. Once a month, fully charge to 100% to balance the cells (cell balancing).

Do not charge it while it is hot. Do not wash it with a pressure washer.

It is not a toy.

It is an answer to transport costs and potholes.

A helmet with certifications is required; I recommend gloves and moderate speed until one gets used to it. If you come from a bicycle or motorcycle, it is easy.

The Ultra is clearly better, but I think the price difference does not offer that much. Spare parts are cheap.

It climbs hills easily.

It has anti-spin, which helps in turns.

However, in mud and snow the anti-spin needs to be disabled, while in normal use it is essential.

It is pleasant, easy, safe, has a bell, lights, turn signals, and although heavy at 27 kilos, it is easy to carry because the handlebar folds cleverly, and the brake has ABS with combined braking.

Conclusion: The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Pro is not just a simple city gadget, but a sturdy, reliable micromobility vehicle, designed to withstand hard daily use. It combines the best value for money, range, and durability, with electricity cost being essentially negligible, making it the most worthwhile investment for long-term use.

I’m back after quite a few kilometers:
- during the first 2 minutes, do not press the throttle; avoid downhill sections. The reason is that the battery is cold and the BMS gives incorrect readings. If it turns red, just let it cool down and charge it continuously for 6 hours so the BMS can synchronize properly.
- do not use other apps.
- on dirt roads, stay at 8-15 km/h.
- on a long continuous uphill, do not press the throttle all the way; aim for about 4/5.
- it is better to keep the light on continuously, for safety.
- on downhills, do not exceed 25 km/h; the BMS turns red.
- after 20 days the pressure drops; inflate to 50 PSI.
- do not leave it in the sun; the BMS starts doing its own thing again.
- incorrect battery readings are not a fault; it just self-corrects on its own.
- with a 115-kilo load, range is 45 km on mixed roads.
- with a 70-kilo load, range is 60 km on mixed roads.
- these measurements are with a maximum of 25 km/h on asphalt, 15 km/h on dirt.
