Based on the frequent and persistent statements and hints of Plato in almost all his works, but mainly in the “Seventh Epistle” and in the “Phaedrus,” that he neither wrote nor should have written his philosophy, which is only inscribed in the souls of people, and the realization that his work has been misunderstood worldwide in many ways, I gradually but steadily began to believe that Plato does not lie when he states that there is no written work of his philosophy, nor will there be, because it is neither spoken nor written in the way other subjects are communicated and recorded.

With this reasoning in mind, I was led to seek an alternative interpretation, more consistent with Plato’s words and style of writing. Aristotle and others who recorded his lectures “On the Good” observed that he taught enigmatically. From these testimonies, I concluded that the appropriate way of writing philosophy according to Plato is the enigmatic one.

When these words or writings, these enigmas, are fully and correctly understood by the listener or reader, then philosophy is inscribed into the soul of the one who perceives it correctly. The purpose of this manner of expressing philosophy is to activate the human mind, because only then can it truly engage in philosophical thought.
