Koula Pratsika (1899-1984) with the Rhythm and Dance School (1930) and mainly its professional section (1937 until 1973 when she handed her school over to the state) shaped the framework of modern dance in Greece as well as the music-educational rhythmic system for children.
In the book, based on the stories of the first six women teachers/choreographers, students of Koula Pratsika, namely Tula Andriopoulou, Lena Zammpoura, Maria Kynigou, Maro Bournazou, Kaiti Tsilimitra, and Maria Chors, the elements based on which Pratsika shaped the identity of modern dance in Greece are highlighted, within the broader social and cultural context of the Interwar period.
