Social/communication and digital skills are foundational in modern education and the workplace, as the necessity for their development is heightened, on one hand, by scientific and technological progress and, on the other hand, by the ongoing changes in the socio-economic and cultural landscape that characterize the contemporary era.
In this direction, the study emphasizes both essential employability skills, basic and high-level digital skills, as well as soft/social, managerial, educational, and work-related skills, always in relation to modern challenges.
Subsequently, skills and concepts related to society's and the economy's needs, knowledge-based work, and contemporary professional needs are analyzed, such as life skills and communication, leadership and resilience, innovation and entrepreneurship, through examples and research findings.
The aim of this study is to highlight that skills are connected to education, adult education, vocational training, and lifelong learning. At the same time, connections are made with a range of professions, specialties, roles, and positions of responsibility.
Issues that are interrelated, such as curriculum reform, student-focused approaches, skills assessment, etc., are examined from both pedagogical and economic rhetoric perspectives, while the role of educators in skill development is also highlighted.
