Description

Description

In recent years, we have noticed an increase in samples of multi-local ethnography in Greece. The re-examination of the concepts of space and place in ethnographic research has encouraged a shift from established, now-classical types of anthropological research towards new, mobile, and fluid constructions of ethnography.

The opening towards studies of migration and other moving populations, which create images of cultural difference in contemporary Greece, has established new methodological approaches to the issue of the formation of ethnic identities and their connection to national policies.

The researchers participating in this volume have themselves become involved in various forms of critical and often multi-local ethnography and have shown that their experiences challenge the traditional boundaries of the identity of field research.

Their texts are samples of contemporary anthropological, as well as historical and criminological research conducted by Greek researchers, related to Greece, neighboring European societies, and others further afield.

The ethnographic fields included in the volume address issues such as culture, ethnicism, and post-colonial discourses, the relationship between anthropology and history, migration, multiculturalism, and 'new' European identities, as well as anthropology, representations, and art.
