What is the meaning, function, and usefulness of archives in the age of the digital revolution? What new necessities have emerged and need to be served?
The establishment of scientific fields such as Public History and Digital Humanities and Arts has transformed the archival landscape, opening up prospects for the utilization and promotion of cultural content, and making archives living hubs of inspiration and creativity.
The new and complex dimensions of information, data, and metadata, as well as contemporary needs for openness, accessibility, inclusiveness, and community development for archives, have sparked a productive dialogue among the members of the research team of the European multi-partner project CR.E.ARCH.: CReative European ARCHives as Innovative Cultural Hubs, as well as within a broader circle of specialized researchers and artists who contribute to the volume Creative Archives as Living Landscapes of Memory in the Digital Age.
