This work develops issues related to the revivals of ancient dramas in modern Greece, to the extent that they contributed, by promoting the ancient Greek heritage, to the production of national ideology.

The study focuses on the "decoding" of the relationships between antiquity and modern Greece through the role of music in these revivals. The characteristics analyzed, therefore, respond to questions that follow and highlight the particularities of modern Greek culture: what is the role of tradition and what is the place of music in the East-West dichotomy that generally characterizes modern Greek history, what is the hierarchical position of music in relation to discourse and direction in the total artwork of ancient drama.

In what ways can music highlight its superiority in ancient drama as opera and, finally, to what extent are these characteristics in harmony or conflict with the corresponding developments in the rest of Europe with which Greece engages and interacts.

The systematic engagement with these issues and the constructive dialogue that will arise highlight an important aspect of the reception of antiquity in modern Greece. A particularly significant cultural aspect of our country that unjustifiably lacks from the broader scientific dialogue.
