Anastasia A. Siopsi

Anastasia A. Siopsi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music Studies at the Ionian University, specializing in "Music Aesthetics." Her primary research activities include presentations and lectures at international musicological conferences, as well as publications and contributions to collective volumes in international musicological journals and publications in Greece and abroad. Her work mainly focuses on German Romantic music, particularly the musical dramas of Richard Wagner (her doctoral dissertation is titled "Richard Wagner's 'Der Ring des Nibelungen': The Reforging of the Sword or, Towards a Reconstruction of the People's Consciousness," England 1996), as well as on modern Greek art music, especially the work of Manolis Kalomoiris, and on aesthetic and ideological issues of the National Music School era, Greek women composers, and music in forms of revival of ancient Greek drama in modern Greece. Chapters in collective volumes include studies such as "Dreaming the myth of 'wholeness': Romantic interpretations of Ancient Greek Music in Greece (c.1890-1914)" (forthcoming in Textual Intersections: Literature and the Arts in Nineteenth Century Europe, Internationale Forschungen zur Allgemeinen und Vergleichenden Literaturwissenschaft series, Editions Rodopi) and "Greek women contributing in art music in Greece and abroad" (forthcoming in Her Art: A Diachronic Perspective of Greek and Greek-American Women in Literature, Music and the Visual Arts, New York, Cosmos Publishing House). Additionally, her monograph "Three Essays on Manolis Kalomoiris" has been published in the "Greek Musicological Editions" series, edited by musicologist and professor Apostolos Kostios (Athens: Papagrigoriou-Nakas Music Publishing House, 2003).
