This volume is an extension, further processing, supplementation, and completion of a tribute by the journal Archaeology and Arts, which covered all four issues of the journal in 1997.
The idea of a series of texts dedicated to the Greek and Hellenic city is due to the direction of the journal, and I personally enthusiastically responded to the proposal to oversee the tribute.
Thus, the subject of the tribute and subsequently of this volume has been the city, but more broadly, any kind of settlement, no matter how small it may be. The time period covered starts from the first appearance of settlement in Greece during the Neolithic period, that is, from the early 7th millennium, and extends to the metropolises and metropolitan areas of the country in our present time.
As for the geographical space covered, it includes both Greece and the wider area corresponding to the spread of each specific Greek culture in the Mediterranean and Balkan zones.
