Description

Description

One of the greatest political leaders of post-war Greece, whose tumultuous journey marked political developments for seven decades, offers his autobiography, determined to hide nothing.

Based on the personal interviews conducted over a decade (2007-2016) by Konstantinos Mitsotakis with journalist Alexis Papachelas, under the condition that they be published only after his death, this book is perhaps the most shocking political testimony to have been published in recent decades.

In its pages, Konstantinos Mitsotakis does not just unfold the thrilling narrative of his journey, from his contribution to avoiding a civil war in Crete in 1943 and his first entry into Parliament in 1946 ("I ran for election without a suit, in the uniform of a second lieutenant") to the Unyielding Struggle and the Apostasy, and from the Dictatorship and the Metapolitefsi to his premiership, but he also shares his weighty opinions on everything and everyone up to 2014.

With his characteristic style, this unique, flowing mixture of simple Katharevousa and Cretan dialect brings to life the turbulent political history of Greece and precisely outlines its key figures with relentless accuracy.

This book reveals, captivates, shocks, and provokes thought. Beyond being an important political legacy, beyond being a book of revelations, it is an astonishing depiction of our homeland's unique character, sketched by an exceptionally perceptive, realistic, and significant politician who played a leading role in the last seventy years of its history.

Review this product
  • It is always interesting to read the opinions of the protagonists of historical events. Although I did not experience the events due to my age, the storytelling style keeps me engaged and does not tire me. It would be very interesting if the author were to release an extended version in the future, where he presents the files mentioned by Mitsotakis (e.g. front pages and articles of the time, including photos, mentioning that Pournaras wrote something, if possible to find the excerpt). Surely someone of older age would find it much more interesting. I wonder what he said in the second part...
