School Literacy is a complex and particularly important skill with linguistic, cognitive, and social dimensions, which decisively determines students' school progress and the prerequisites for their social advancement.

Due to its high significance, it has occupied modern international educational literature over the last two decades, as well as the Greek literature in recent years. The issue of School Literacy has become timely and imperative in our country due to recent international reports, which show Greece among the last countries in the international ranking, and due to the new school textbooks, which consciously prioritize the development of School Literacy.

The authors of this volume familiarize educators with processed theoretical analyses of written discourse and tested teaching practices of Functional, Critical, and Scientific Literacy, suitable for enabling students to:

1. deeply understand and interpret the meaningful content of (school) texts and the social practice they represent,

2. integrate texts both into the textual genre and into the social context within which they are produced and function,

3. critically analyze the relationships between lexical-grammatical means and the intended functions of specific textual genres, and

4. compose texts of various genres and types for their learning and later for their social and professional needs.
