
Dimitris Matthaiou
Dimitris Matthaiou was born in Athens. He studied Physics at the School of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Athens and pursued postgraduate studies in Comparative Education at the Institute of Education, University of London, on a scholarship. In 1978, he was awarded the Lawyreys Prize, and in 1980, he earned his doctorate from the University of London. Since 1989, he has been a professor of Comparative Education at the Department of Primary Education at the University of Athens. He teaches Comparative Education and International Educational Policy at the Department of Primary Education, the Department of Methodology, History and Theory of Science, and, until 2006, in the Human Resource Management and Administration elective program at the University of Athens. He has authored works on international educational policy, the evolution of educational systems, trends in the European educational space, and Higher Education. He has served in various administrative positions and participated in numerous educational policy-making working groups. Currently, he is the Director of the Laboratory of Comparative Education, International Educational Policy, and Communication, the Scientific Director of the "Comparative Education" track of the Postgraduate Program of the Department of Primary Education, President of the Hellenic Society of Comparative Education, Vice President of the Comparative Education Society in Europe, Scientific Director of the journal "Comparative and International Educational Review," and a member of the Editorial Board of the journal "Open Education" and the Advisory Board of the journal "European Education."
