The Military History of Modern Greece is above all a reading of national identity, clearly presenting our adventurous journey towards national completeness. Avoiding common exaggerations, the historians who signed this three-volume work record not only the heroism and self-sacrifice but also the mistakes that marked the struggles of the Greeks in the 20th century.

The 25-year period covered by the first volume of the work 'We the Greeks' begins with a defeat and ends with an unprecedented catastrophe. Nevertheless, from 1897 to 1922, the territory and population of Greece more than doubled. Every inch of land gained on the battlefields and at the negotiation table is imbued with the blood of tens of thousands of known and unknown heroes.
