Genuine Ink Buying Guide

Genuine Ink Buying Guide

Looking for ink for your new printer? Learn everything you need to make the right choice!

Compatibility

Not all inks are made for all printers.

Therefore, to avoid ending up with a product you cannot use, it is very important to first find out your printer model.

This may be listed

  • on the device
  • in the manual
  • on the packaging

Some popular printer models by manufacturer for example are:

  • HP: Deskjet 2710e, Envy Inspire 7220e, Officejet Pro 9730e AiO, Smart Tank 580
  • Cannon: Pixma TS5351A, Maxify MB5150
  • Epson: EcoTank L6270, WorkForce Pro WF-C4810DTWF, Expression Home XP-2150
  • Brother: MFC-T920DW, DCP-T420W

So first, you can identify your own model and then continue with the rest of our search!

Each ink lists in its description the models with which it is compatible.

Each ink code is compatible only with printers from the same manufacturer, so you can filter by the manufacturer name to see only the results that concern you.

Shade

Before analyzing the shades, it is worth mentioning that depending on the printer model and whether it is intended for simple home use or professional photo printing, it may accept separate inks for each color, or a single cartridge (except for black) that contains the 3 basic colors (Tri-Color), namely red, yellow, and blue.

This applies to all colors except black!

Therefore, apart from the black color, which always needs to be placed in a separate cartridge, depending on your printer, you can buy each color separately, or get a Tri-Color cartridge.

The advantages and disadvantages of printers that accept Tri-Color are as follows:

  • Easier replacement, since you simply install 1 cartridge instead of 3 or more (+)
  • If you do not print frequently, the 1 cartridge may be more economical for you (+)
  • If one of the 3 colors runs out, the entire cartridge needs to be replaced (-)

Similarly, for printers that use separate color inks:

  • You can replace only the color that has run out without wasting the other colors as well (+)
  • Better long-term performance, since with separate cartridges you get a larger quantity of each color compared to a single one (+)
  • If you do not print often, buying separate inks may end up being more expensive over time (-)

Of course, all of the above depend on the printer you have, so you will need to get whatever is compatible with that specific model

Single or Multi-Pack

Finally, you will see that there are packages that include 1 cartridge, and others that include multiple cartridges and, in essence, you get all the ink you need with one purchase and more economically.

The most common multi-cartridge packs you will find are:

  • 1 Black + 1 Multi-Color (Tri-Color), for printers that accept only 2 cartridges
  • 1 Black + 1 of each color, for printers that accept separate cartridges for each color

Photo Value Pack

If you are involved in high-quality photo printing, you can choose a Photo Pack that includes premium inks as well as photo paper so you can get everything you need for your prints in one go!

We hope we have helped you make the right choice and wish you happy printing!
