The "I Love You" Army, as the British referred to the Italian occupation forces in Greece (1941-1943), brings to life incidents between Italian soldiers and Greeks who face the harshness of war daily and struggle to survive by any means; episodes with the prostitutes who follow the troops; scenes with women selling their bodies for a piece of bread, a little soap, or to save their husbands and brothers.
Stories of love that ultimately compose a grand mural. But also about love, friendship, and betrayal. The heroes are all young and beautiful. They thirst for life and have desires. They are, however, soldiers. Mussolini has sent them to Greece to crush the Greek people. And they attempt to deceive slow-moving time, their exhaustion, and fear in the arms of Greek women, enchanted by the exquisite beauty of the Greek landscape.
Renzo Biazzion - who participated in the Italian campaign against Greece during World War II and served in the Peloponnese, Crete, and Rhodes - wrote his unique literary work, "Army 'I Love You'," to exorcise the nightmares of war. [Excerpt from the text on the back cover of the edition]
