A child gazes at the sea. It is Telemachus, who seeks justice: there is no longer Law in his land, only the seemingly endless Night of the Suitors… Telemachus waits for his father, Odysseus, to restore symbolic order to his home, ravaged by the Suitors.
Unlike Oedipus, who is blinded by guilt for his criminal desire, unlike Narcissus, who is dazzled by the barren beauty of his image, Telemachus gazes at the sea with wide-open eyes, desperately seeking his father, the Law of the father.
Today's children resemble Telemachus. They search with that gaze for the one who will return from the sea, seeking the Law that will open new horizons. For the father, although he is not the possessor of the Law, although he does not know the ultimate meaning of life, still indicates through the incarnate testimony of his existence that it is possible – it is still possible – to give meaning to this world, to transmit desire, to speak of the future.
To tell Telemachus that everything has not yet happened, that we have not yet seen everything, we have not yet known everything. To ultimately make the Child a true heir, capable not only of receiving meaning for the world but also of discovering new meanings of the world, new worlds of meaning.
