Description & Specifications

The three poets Hailderlin, Maerike and Vaiblinger spend a seemingly peaceful summer afternoon in the Chinese pavilion of Pressel, just outside Tubingen. Maerike's will reflects the receptive and friendly spirit of the poet-artisan, but also that of the pious Lutheran faithful. On the contrary, Vaiblinger appears as the epitome of "the model of invincible youthful adventure and abundantly inflated power." However, the soul of both is shaken by the uncertainty of youth, while their stormy dialogue - always under the watchful eye of Hailderlin's poetic genius - seems to be guided by the unspoken human need for integration in the opposite, just as it happens with the Dionysian Narcissus and the Apollonian Chrysostom in the novel Narcissus and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse.
The excursion ends with Hailderlin's return to the house of the carpenter Zimmer and Maerike's return to the theological institution of Tubingen, the famous Tübinger Stift, where the two young poets study. Thus, our little story is completed with the image of the mad poet of "Hyperion" who, "with his beautiful, elegant graphic character," writes a "mournful lament," thus confirming for us the bitter truth that the splendor of life, with its polyphonic songs and golden threads, not only passes but also crushes those who tried to assimilate and overcome the contradictions by touching the universal spirit of the All, even the One, the Unique who "saw" beyond and beyond the fragmented surface of physical reality, the World as completeness and divine beauty.
