Galatsi, from its establishment as an Athenian settlement in the early 1900s to the present day - until 1974 - unfolds in the pages of this book.
What was the area like in the early 20th century? When and from where did the first settlers come? Why did they choose Galatsi and how were they able to take root on the rock? What were their occupations and what traces did they leave behind? How did the current urban situation that troubles us come about? How and when did the name GALATSI begin to be used? How did the large properties come into being?
I turned back a century to the settlement beginnings of this specific area and began to seek out how the region was, who first inhabited it and from where they came, why they chose it as their residence, what difficulties they faced in their establishment, their occupations, and how the name Galatsi originated. How they domesticated and transformed an untouched natural environment into an urban space.
What are the signs they left in their wake? What was preserved, what was destroyed, and why? Lastly, there followed that which gave birth to the idea of this book and was summed up in the question: Could Galatsi have been different? More humane?
Thus, I delved deep to trace Galatsi from its origins and the Galatsiots who "discovered" and "conquered" it.
