This book contains educational material for the second grade according to the current Curriculum. It is an innovative and original resource for both prospective and practicing educators that includes many contemporary elements and was developed through scientific research in the Laboratory of Mathematics of Nature and Life at the Department of Education in Florina and applied in practice in many schools across Greece.

The new mathematical knowledge is connected to the child's prior knowledge and is presented within a framework that creates strong motivations for the student. This framework, where mathematical concepts are presented, can be stories, games, original problem situations related to the environment, culture, art, and the history of mathematics. Thus, many times the lesson starts with the narration of a story that relates to the new concept and serves as an introductory activity.

In each lesson, the goals are stated, and teaching instructions are provided for the possible behaviors and difficulties of students, as well as the teaching actions that should be followed according to the contemporary results of research in the Teaching of Mathematics.
