After its emergence in September 2011 in Zuccotti Park in New York, the Occupy movement spread to dozens of cities around the world. Thanks to these cores, a new global consciousness of resistance to the power of capital began to take shape.

Noam Chomsky, through his public interventions, encouraged participation in collective struggles for equality, freedom, and democracy. He supported the movement from the very beginning and joined his voice with those who critique the dominance of multinational corporations and the corruption it brings.

Through discussions with participants in the Occupy movement, Chomsky explores the causes of the major problems of our time that drive people to protest. The central questions he raises are: How did we get here? In what way do the wealthy, who make up just 1% of the world's population, perpetuate their hegemony over the remaining 99%?

Occupy is yet another vital contribution from Chomsky to the literature of dissent and at the same time a call to create a just world based on solidarity.
