The book examines the various aspects of the educational activities of the Greek Orthodox communities in Thrace, specifically in the province of Adrianople during the 19th century, mainly after the establishment of the Greek state (1830).

Its aim is to highlight the issue of education, which was one of the most important dimensions of the cultural identity of the Greek Orthodox world within the Ottoman Empire during the late Ottoman period, when it became inextricably linked to the ideological orientations and educational policies of the newly established Greek state.

In this context, topics related to the factors that influenced the educational reality, the entities responsible for organizing the educational process, the contribution of the Philanthropic Educational Societies, as well as the operation of the schools, including their curricula, regulations, and financial resources are addressed.
