G5100 peat is a compressed, dry growing medium made from coconut husk fibers. When water is added, it expands and can be used as a standalone growing medium, as a soil conditioner mixed with soil, or for starting seeds and seedlings. It is also suitable for terrariums with reptiles, amphibians, turtles, and insects, as it retains moisture without rotting easily.

It retains water effectively and allows air to circulate around the roots without becoming muddy. It has a neutral pH, usually between 5.5 and 6.5, and low salinity. To hydrate it, place it in a large container and add lukewarm water. After 15–30 minutes, once it has softened, stir it to fluff it up.
