The Stone of Madness is a real-time tactical stealth game set in an 18th-century Spanish monastery in the Pyrenees. This old clerical monastery serves as both a psychiatric hospital and an Inquisition prison.
Five prisoners, tormented by harsh punishments, madness, and despair, combine their skills and resources to confront their phobias, avoid losing their sanity, uncover the monastery’s secrets, and find a way to escape.
Escaping such a heavily guarded monastery is no easy task, but Agnes, Leonora, Eduardo, Amelia, and Alfredo are determined to succeed.
Switch between controlling all five characters and use their unique, upgradeable abilities to cast spells, take out targets, distract enemies, frighten evil spirits, explore hard-to-reach areas, and more.
Explore your surroundings and combine the characters’ abilities to find clues and items scattered throughout the monastery. Be careful—if you get caught somewhere you shouldn’t be, the guards won’t show any mercy.
To navigate the monastery effectively, you’ll need to consider the characters’ mental states. Each playable character has a fully developed set of traumas and phobias.
Triggering these traits lowers a character’s mental health, eventually causing a traumatic episode with negative consequences, such as paranoid delusions, dementia, or violent outbursts, radically changing how the affected character plays.
Choose between two different escape plans, each with its own stories, objectives, special characters, and other surprises. Time is always moving forward in The Stone of Madness.
Stealth, exploration, and gathering materials are ideal activities during the day, when guards are easily distracted.
Night is best spent planning and managing your escape plan. Any player who explores the monastery after curfew will face an additional challenge.
The game’s isometric perspective provides the perfect stage for its stunning visuals, allowing players to take in every detail and feel as though they’re wandering through a Goya painting brought to life.
