The Fujifilm LTO Ultrium 7 tapes offer more space for storing specific tape information thanks to their integration with a 16K (IC chip) tape memory. This feature allows for recording the tape's load/unload history and easily monitoring the tape's condition.
Fujifilm's unique high-stiffness drum design prevents center deformation, which can cause damage to the edge of the tape. This feature is especially important as tape lengths become longer and thinner.
Additionally, Fujifilm LTO Ultrium 7 tapes with BaFe have a long archival lifespan (over 30 years) and perform well when used with older drives that have become obsolete due to repeated use.
Generation 7 LTO media will be compatible for re-writing with LTO Ultrium 6 data tapes and for reusing LTO Ultrium 5 data tapes. Like the previous generation, LTO Ultrium 7 media will include dual partition features, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), and Linear Tape File System (LTFS). Fujifilm's latest offering includes an LTO Ultrium 7 WORM tape for "write-once-read-many" applications, such as data storage compliance standards requiring a non-rewritable format.
