Description

BLACKBOOK 04 is dedicated to the Düsseldorf writer EKSIT, offering a glimpse into more than three decades of uncompromising train and street writing. As part of the city's second generation of graffiti artists, EKSIT embodies a notorious way of life: never stop, never slow down, unless forced to do so by external circumstances. For him, writing is a release valve, a way to relieve pressure, and a parallel reality – a constant that continues to this day.

The material for this book could have filled thousands of pages. RED TOWER curated 550 images from private blackbooks and archives, supplemented by texts from EKSIT himself and insights from scene voices such as MARK TODT, AGIT, FUME, LEEDS, ROY, MICKEY, JAKE, UNIT, and OPAK. The focus is on pace, adaptation, and the typical economy of lettering of a writer whose style was shaped early on by speed and environment—legible, recognizable, and unique.

BLACKBOOK 04 is therefore more than an archive. It is a piece of writing biography from the 1990s to the present day, a rarely clear look into a practice carried out over decades, and a document for all those interested in the long haul in graffiti – without pathos, without pause.
