Comprising over 100 works across a range of media, from beadwork and jewellery to video and painting, the lavishly illustrated Indigenous Identities foregrounds the significance of identity in artmaking through the diverse practices of 97 artists, representing more than 47 distinct Indigenous nations and tribes across the United States.

Included essays by Native American scholars and artists range from an overview of Native art to spotlights on different media: photography, new art, poetry, sculpture, ceramics, painting, and jewellery and fashion. The book also includes an interview with the artist and curator Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation) by Neal Ambrose-Smith.
