Description

Description

The first quantum revolution, which began in the early 20th century primarily thanks to Albert Einstein, revolutionized our understanding of the world, introducing astonishing concepts such as wave-particle duality, and leading to significant inventions: the transistor, the laser, and integrated computer circuits.

Less well known, the second quantum revolution started in 1935 with a discussion between Einstein and Niels Bohr, and became feasible from the late 1960s through experiments with individual particles. This ongoing revolution is based on the paradoxical concept of entangled particles, which behave in highly similar ways even when separated by large distances.

This concept was mainly confirmed through experiments by Alain Aspect in the early 1980s and is already finding specific practical applications, particularly in the field of cryptography. It may lead to new technologies in the future, such as quantum computing. Oriented towards a physics of the future, this book narrates a wonderful story of science, where experimental processes have resolved philosophical debates.
