Omega-3 fatty acids are found mainly in the form of triglycerides and ethyl esters. Triglycerides are the natural form found in fish and oils, while ethyl esters result from oil processing. The product contains omega-3 fatty acids in triglyceride form, which offer better bioavailability and stability than the ethyl ester form.

Animal-derived fish oils require extensive processing to remove heavy metals, PCBs, dioxins and microplastics from polluted oceans. By contrast, the marine microalga Schizochytrium sp. is cultivated in sterile, controlled indoor tanks under strict production conditions. Cultivation in a closed environment significantly reduces exposure to environmental pollutants that may be present in the marine ecosystem. As a result, the oil produced is highly pure and typically requires less extensive purification than conventional fish oils.
