The surge voltage diverter consists of a semiconductor valve element that opens under certain conditions, allowing the management of surges. Under normal conditions, the resistance of the diverter between the protected conductors and the grounding circuit is extremely high. When the voltage rises, the valve opens and directs the excess voltage to the grounded circuit. After the normal voltage is restored, the valve element closes.
