With a primary focus on antiquarian studies, the sciences of classical philology, archaeology, history, linguistics, folklore, and pedagogy gradually emerged during the 19th century. During the same period, the preliminary developments of Byzantine and Modern Greek philology appeared, scientific fields that gained prominence in the 20th century.
The space within which the process of establishing the humanities sciences took place was mainly the University, but not only that, as evidenced by publications in the press and magazines of the era, as well as by the writings of professors in Secondary Education. Significant influence was also exerted by developments across Europe, particularly in Germany, where most of those involved in these fields attended university courses.
Specialized researchers investigate the foundation of the humanities in Greece during the 19th century using historical analysis. (From the presentation on the back cover of the book)
