  • Against the backdrop of Chios, the sea, and the life of sailors, the book attempts to speak about love, the loneliness of those who leave, and the silent strength of those who stay behind and wait.
And perhaps that is the element I kept most.
Chios, its people, seafaring life, journeys, waiting, farewells… all of these create a setting that could have become truly captivating. It has something of the smell of the sea and the melancholy of a harbor.
However, for me, the story did not manage to gain the intensity I expected.
Two love stories, without any particular twists or surprises, without those climaxes that would make me anxious about how they would unfold. It reads pleasantly and easily, but not with undiminished interest.
At one point, in fact, I felt like I was waiting for something to happen. A twist, a climax, something that would change the course of the story and give it more strength. It never came.
A pleasant read, with a beautiful setting and interesting references to Chios and the life of sailors, but for me it remained more on the "pleasant" side than the "unforgettable" side.

Description & Specifications

“An old myth says that some women offered a sprig of mastic to their sailor husbands, wishing for them to return before it withered…”

“I loved Philip knowing that his life was the sea, while mine was a world full of rules and obligations on land. Our relationship had to remain secret, measured in a few hours together and countless goodbyes.
”On my island, Chios, with the scent of mastic and citrus flooding us, our two worlds were tied together in an intricate sailor’s knot.
”When the nightmare came to life, I realized how fragile everything you love is, and how close you can come—in just a moment—to losing it all.
”And then I understood that it doesn’t matter how far you go, but that you always have a reason to return… to your harbor.”

Set against the backdrop of shipping and Chios, amidst open seas, dangers, and adventures, a love will become an unbreakable bond.

“A myth tells of a rudderless ship that wandered alone for years across the seas, without crew, without captain. No one could tame it. Haunted, it drifted, surrendered to the currents, yet it was never wrecked, never sank. It only traveled, stubbornly, through unknown waters. That’s what it feels like when love governs your soul.”
This is a book about the loneliness of those who leave and the silent strength of those who wait, about loves that are tested but remain unshakable.
