On the occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of the momentous event of the Exodos, Menandros Publications released a collector's edition of the late Sarantos Kargakos. The collection of texts was curated by his son, Yannis, and his wife, Ioanna, and constitutes a significant anthology of the author's writings, highlighting the profound historical and symbolic importance of the city.
Through the pages of the book, the spirit of self-sacrifice and freedom of the besieged is showcased, as well as the vitality of an event that transcended the boundaries of a military confrontation, transforming into a timeless symbol of struggle and dignity. All the events of the siege are described with compelling detail, including the decisive defense and, ultimately, the Heroic Exodus, while a special section of the book is dedicated to the heroines of Mesolongi and their contribution to the Struggle.
Sarantos Kargakos (1937–2019), philologist, historian, and prolific author, was one of the most notable figures of modern Greek historiography. With dozens of books and studies, he dedicated himself consistently to the promotion of Greek history and education. This work is a characteristic example of his writing, combining historical documentation, linguistic strength, and a deep commitment to historical memory.
The album is adorned with notable artistic depictions and paintings inspired by Mesolongi, as well as rare maps, original sketches, chronological tables, and an index that enhance its historical value.
