Follow me to the Wesermarsch, the land by the water between the North Sea, Jade Bay, and the Weser River. The borders of this region in the northwest of the Federal Republic of Germany are clearly defined. The southern part is enclosed by the cities of Bremen and Oldenburg. The Weser River forms the eastern boundary. A large part of the western border is determined by Jade Bay. The north extends into the open North Sea.
Here lies the green coast with its wide beaches, the bracing sea air, the wind, the natural experience of the Wadden Sea landscape, and the quiet world behind the dikes. Above it all arches the sky, sometimes brilliantly blue, sometimes gray and overcast, sometimes colorfully adorned with imaginative cloud formations.
In this often harsh and lonely land, personalities were able to develop, such as the painters Franz Radziwill and Bernhard Winter, or the famous master organ builder Arp Schnitger. The simple village churches of the Wesermarsch, in their remoteness, hold one of the most important chapters of early Baroque art history.
