How do significant private collections come into being? What can be learned about art and artists through the perspective of an art-loving collector? Which concepts shape the decisions of visual thinking?

A major collection of works from Classical Modernism provides insight into the individuality of a unique choice possible only once in the world, presented in an arrangement at the Pablo Picasso Art Museum Münster. Over 90 works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Oskar Schlemmer, and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, as well as many other artists, stand as masterpieces individually within this ensemble, yet enter into a dialogue shaped by the personality of the collector.

The book reveals the character of the whole through the presentation of the images, makes contexts understandable, reflects on the act of collecting itself, casually offers extremely rare works such as Picasso’s aquatint series of Dora Maar—and holds within its covers the wonderful dream of a personal life with art.
