Initially, I was the owner of the first MacBook Air 13” with M1.
I used it for coding, virtual servers, and AI integrations within development workflows. Even the M1 never let me down in terms of performance; however, since it is not intended for such heavy and continuous use, under intense workload it would heat up, resulting in it getting quite warm and the battery life being noticeably affected. At the same time, the 13-inch screen had started to limit me for multitasking, AI flows, and coding.
The upgrade to the new 15” Air happened because I wanted:
• a larger screen for more comfortable work,
• a more powerful processor for demanding coding/workflows,
• and of course a lightweight machine that I can easily carry while traveling.
So far, it has left me absolutely satisfied and has truly impressed me.
Processes complete in less than half the time compared to a Windows desktop i7 with 24GB RAM that I use at the office. The speed is honestly shocking.
For those who have used Macs for years, they know that evaluating the battery in the first month is not objective, as the system does indexing/background optimization and adapts to usage habits, so I won’t comment on that yet.
As for the screen, I had a second pleasant surprise.
I expected a classic IPS/LCD just a bit brighter than the previous model, but it seems something has significantly improved in the contrast, because the blacks in normal lighting resemble a mini LED type panel. Obviously, in low lighting they remain more gray as is the case with LCDs, but the overall image is impressively upgraded.
Overall, it is exactly what I expected and maybe even a bit more.
Since Apple moved to the M-series processors, personally I find it hard to see the value in buying a very expensive Windows laptop for demanding coding/development use, when with almost half the money you can get a Mac that delivers the same work in noticeably less time.

Ακόμα και το M1 δεν με άφησε ποτέ από πλευράς απόδοσης· ωστόσο, επειδή δεν προορίζεται για τόσο βαριά και συνεχόμενη χρήση, σε έντονο workload ανέβαζε θερμοκρασίες, με αποτέλεσμα να ζεσταίνεται αρκετά και να επηρεάζεται αισθητά η διάρκεια της μπαταρίας. Παράλληλα, η 13άρα οθόνη είχε αρχίσει να με περιορίζει για multitasking, AI flows και coding.
Η αναβάθμιση στο νέο 15” Air έγινε γιατί ήθελα:
• μεγαλύτερη οθόνη για πιο άνετη εργασία,
• ισχυρότερο επεξεργαστή για απαιτητικό coding/workflows,
• και φυσικά ένα ελαφρύ μηχάνημα που να μπορώ να μεταφέρω εύκολα στα ταξίδια.
Μέχρι στιγμής με έχει αφήσει απόλυτα ικανοποιημένο και πραγματικά με έχει εντυπωσιάσει.
Οι διεργασίες ολοκληρώνονται σε λιγότερο από τον μισό χρόνο σε σχέση με Windows desktop i7 με 24GB RAM που χρησιμοποιώ στο γραφείο. Η ταχύτητα είναι ειλικρινά σοκαριστική.
Για όσους χρησιμοποιούν χρόνια Mac γνωρίζουν ότι η αξιολόγηση της μπαταρίας τον πρώτο μήνα δεν είναι αντικειμενική, καθώς το σύστημα κάνει indexing/background optimization και προσαρμόζεται στις συνήθειες χρήσης, οπότε δεν θα σταθώ ακόμη σε αυτό.
Όσον αφορά την οθόνη, έπαθα δεύτερο ευχάριστο σοκ.
Περίμενα μια κλασική IPS/LCD λίγο πιο φωτεινή από το προηγούμενο μοντέλο, όμως φαίνεται ότι κάτι έχει βελτιωθεί σημαντικά στο contrast, γιατί τα μαύρα σε φυσιολογικό φωτισμό θυμίζουν panel τύπου mini LED. Προφανώς σε χαμηλό φωτισμό παραμένουν πιο γκρι όπως συμβαίνει στις LCD, αλλά η συνολική εικόνα είναι εντυπωσιακά αναβαθμισμένη.
Συνολικά είναι ακριβώς αυτό που περίμενα και ίσως κάτι παραπάνω.
Από τη στιγμή που η Apple πέρασε στους M-series επεξεργαστές, προσωπικά δυσκολεύομαι να δω την αξία αγοράς ενός πολύ ακριβού Windows laptop για απαιτητικό coding/development use, όταν με σχεδόν τα μισά χρήματα μπορείς να πάρεις Mac που αποδίδει την ίδια δουλειά σε αισθητά λιγότερο χρόνο.
