Description

Description

In recent years, both in Greece and in many countries worldwide, there has been a particular interest in substance dependence among women. Studies and clinical experience highlight significant differences, mainly psychological and social, but also biological, between men and women, on the one hand regarding the factors that push women to engage with substances and follow a certain dependency path, and on the other hand regarding the process of seeking help for recovery.

The testimony of women who are dependent, whether they are mothers, immigrants, or refugees, teaches us a lot and invites us to become witnesses to their hard stories. Most importantly, it calls us to listen to their souls, their cries of alienation, and the stigma of recovery.

Although this work primarily addresses women's substance dependence, it also emphasizes the power of parental love, bonds, and psychotherapy, as well as the meaning they hold concerning the difficult fight for sobriety from substances.
