Description

Description

The work was written in 1934. It is the penultimate dramatic work of L. Pirandello. It premiered in Czech at the National Theatre of Prague on November 19, 1934, for the first time. Pirandello, who had just received the Nobel Prize in Stockholm, attended the Prague premiere.

In Italy, it was performed on December 13, 1935, in Rome, at the Teatro Argentina, with Ruggero Ruggeri in the main role and directed by himself.

This work holds a unique place in the theater of Luigi Pirandello because it addresses the problem of human responsibility to the most extreme and even most absurd consequences. It is a problem that Pirandello had certainly approached many times. (Six Characters in Search of an Author, Each in Their Own Way. The Game of Roles. For One or for No One). However, only in Without Knowing How does he confront it so absolutely and directly, allowing it to emerge from life, from memory, from past experience, and from the present of the protagonist, who, unwittingly, is called to share it with others.
