This book is a collective work that captures the interdisciplinarity and complexity of the study of high abilities and giftedness in children and adolescents.

Focusing on theoretical models and empirical findings from the science of psychology, it addresses central aspects of the issue of giftedness. Based on three fields of analysis—the socio-psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational—it examines the characteristics of gifted children and adolescents, as well as the problems they may face in their emotional and social adjustment.

Many of these problems are related to stereotypes and prejudices that the support of these specific children within the school environment and the wider community constitutes a form of elitism and group favoritism.

Furthermore, the book highlights certain mental health issues that need to be addressed at the level of prevention and careful differential diagnosis, timely and with valid methods.

Ignoring the presence of gifted individuals and therefore not providing them with what corresponds to their needs is a phenomenon that challenges the very value of providing equal educational and social opportunities to all students.

It is often considered that gifted students form a minority of children and adolescents who can find their way independently due to their exceptional abilities. However, this reflects a stereotypical perception that hinders their good adjustment, well-being, and, of course, their seamless inclusion in the group at all stages of their development.
