This book is primarily aimed at middle and high school students who want to engage in the construction and programming of robotic machines using the educational platform EV3. It attempts to present, in a step-by-step approach, how we can build simple robotic machines and then program them (i.e., control their behavior) using the visual programming environment of EV3.
One of the main goals of the book is to encourage and help students develop initiatives, discover knowledge, express themselves, and create. Without going into details, it presents indicative examples of problems as well as their solutions. Through the reference of appropriate activities, advanced programming topics are highlighted, such as the use of variables and the creation of new commands.
This book is also aimed at those who wish to engage in educational robotics, either as trainers or as trainees. Educational robotics combines learning with play, and children learn while playing. Programming the robot by the students themselves leads to the cultivation and development of important cognitive skills (Papert 1980). Concepts from mathematics, technology, and physics become the subject of reflection through practical activities that are directly related to the students' interests.
