The Rio Grande Games Southern Pacific board game is a strategy and economic management game in which players compete to control six railroad companies in Texas and the surrounding areas. The companies are funded through the sale of shares, while their presidents decide whether to auction shares, build new lines, acquire other companies’ lines, or distribute dividends. The “bull market” auctions at the end of each round can change control of a company, while shareholders can force a president to step down through a hostile takeover.
The game ends when one company has built all of its lines or all shares have been purchased. Shares pay dividends during the game, but they do not count toward the final score; the winner is the player with the most money.
