Greek prose is, in any case, a multifaceted entity, with its heterogeneous historical periods, the diverse narrative genres, the multiple branches of narrative modes, the numerous narrative perspectives and focal points, and its varied thematic directions. The colors of the cube's faces, like in my childhood game with the little magician's cube, metaphorically correspond to the temporal and historical pockets of prose enclosed within the historical cycle of this book.

On the colored faces of the cube, we will encounter Emmanuil Roidis and Pope Joan, the ideologically heavy interpretations of Papadiamantis. We will see what prose by Elisavet Moutzan-Martinegou means for women and their position in society and literature, what echoes in the sparkling mind of Michail Mitsakis, what Grigorios Xenopoulos managed to capture and what kind of Athens he sought to depict in one of his early novelistic works.

We will try to examine, without the lenses of ethnography and folklore, the prose of Kostas Krystallis, what the corrosive demystification of the satire by Ioannis Kondylakis portrays, the class orientation and political discourse of the short story writer and novelist Konstantinos Theotokis.

We will also encounter the modernist and at the same time traditionalist Fotis Kontoglou, the monarchist but also defender of tolerance and freedom Konstantinos Tsitselikis, and the novelist and short story writer Stratis Myrivilis, sometimes constrained and sometimes bold, as well as Kazantzakis, Pavlos Nirvana, Guilelmo Abbott, Karagatsis, Melpo Axioti, Yannis Maris, Nikos Kahtitsis, Stratis Tsirkas, as well as the authors of the early and mature post-dictatorship period.
