  • I needed rechargeable AA lithium batteries for a device that does not work properly with NiMH due to their lower voltage (1.2V instead of 1.5V). The advantage of these particular XTAR batteries over other lithium batteries is that they simulate a gradual voltage drop from 1.5V as they discharge, instead of dropping and disconnecting abruptly, thus allowing the device to more accurately display the charging status. In the first month of use, the capacity is very good, close to the nominal 3000mAh, and the charging indicator on the device indeed reflects reality. My only complaint is the relatively long charging time (from a desktop PC USB port, I did not try with a USB charger) which can exceed 6 hours. Note that the white 'octopus' type charging cable shown in the photo has now been replaced by a rigid 'comb' type adapter, which (intentionally, to avoid short-circuiting) prevents you from connecting the batteries while they are inside the device.

In most lithium batteries of this type, when they run out, the voltage drops suddenly and the device shuts off abruptly. However, these seem to have implemented a different behavior.

When they are close to being empty, the voltage drops to about 1.2V, so it becomes noticeable that the battery is running low.

In practice, this means that in a flashlight you will see a gradual decrease in brightness instead of an instant shutdown, while in devices with a battery indicator (LED) it may start blinking or change color.

They were tested in a GameBoy DMG with an IPS screen, where at maximum brightness and sound volume, they lasted a total of 13 hours.

Quality and usability. From now on, I will only buy such 1.5 v batteries.
