Description

Frank McDonough's book, one of the leading historians, focuses on the last days of World War II and the fall of the Nazi regime. As the penultimate volume in the series "Hitler's Germany," it offers a detailed narrative that addresses the key figures and events of this terrifying period.

"Hitler's Years: The Holocaust 1933–1945" describes in detail the development of the early repression implemented by Adolf Hitler from the early 1920s and how this policy evolved into full genocide by the end of the war. The book contextualizes the events from the Nazi party's seizure of power in 1933 and the Nuremberg Laws, which restricted the German Jewish population.

It also refers to Germany's slow descent into pre-war policies of intimidation, which culminated in the deadly attacks of "Kristallnacht." As Europe moved towards a new global war in 1939, thousands of German Jews had already left the country, only to be arrested following the occupation of Western Europe by Hitler's forces.

With the invasion of the Soviet Union, the secret meeting of 1942 (the Wannsee Conference) used the eastern war to systematically plan the extermination of the Jewish population on the continent – now known as the "Final Solution." The fully illustrated book compiles and references the latest academic research, extensively using primary sources, and provides a vivid and shocking account of a tragic and deadly period in German and European history.
