Description

The Barbus Titteya (Cherry Barb) is a slimmer fish compared to other Barbs. It has an elegant profile and fiery orange and red color. The intricate markings on the chocolate brown color adorn the fish along the lateral line. During breeding, the male will turn bright cherry red, which explains its name.

It prefers a well-planted aquarium of at least 100lt with soft, slightly acidic water. Rocks and wood can be added to the aquarium, but there should be enough swimming space.

The Cherry Barb is a very shy fish that should be housed with fish of the same temperament. It is best, during breeding, to house several Barbs in the same aquarium until they pair up. After a pair develops, the female will lay the eggs and the male will follow to fertilize them.

The fry will be free-swimming after about 5 days. Feed the fry with newly hatched artemia until they are large enough to accept crushed food.
