Description

After many adventures, little Amalia finally reached the final grade of the Teachers' School at Arsakeio. She was very happy; in less than a month, she would take her exams and receive her teaching diploma. But someone wanted to stop her, to drive her out of the school—and that someone was not human, it was a ghost! You might say: Are there ghosts? Well, are there? The frightened classmates believe they exist. However, Amalia and her friend Fotini disagree. Something else is going on. But what? That's why they became detectives and turned the world upside down to uncover the truth: Was it really a ghost threatening them, or was someone hiding a terrible secret? Here we stop. We can't reveal anything more. After all, we didn't solve the mystery; Amalia and Fotini did!

“I wanted the girls to understand that the privileges they enjoy today were not always theirs. Now, all girls go to school. Back then, very few could. For a girl to be educated in the 19th century, she had to fight against society, against her parents, against stereotypes that wanted her locked in the house caring for others. That's why my heroine is a girl. I wanted all today’s children to understand that nothing beautiful happens by itself. If they desire something, they must fight, just like poor Amalia from Kypseli fought to become a teacher. The 19th-century little girl possesses the qualities I wish all girls today would acquire: intelligence, courage, persistence, imagination, and humor. Because girls can now become teachers, but even today, two centuries later, equality has not yet been achieved…”
